Almost every municipality in Austria is threatened by some kind of natural hazard. Floods, mudflows, torrential rain, landslides, sinkings, rockfall, avalanches, as well as heat, drought, forest- and wildfire, storms, hail, lightning, snow/ice loads, late frost, pest calamities and invasive species affect the communes. If the relevant actors are aware of the threats and preventive measures are taken, this is a huge advantage for the community. The precautionary check on natural hazards in climate change is designed to make a significant contribution to precisely this.

"Rabenstein is not safe from natural hazards. But thanks to the precautionary check, we are now better prepared for the climate risks in the region. All those responsible - from the fire brigade and the building authorities to the municipal management - know what dangers are to be expected, but also which capacities we have in the municipality. The auditors have helped us to explore our potential in terms of natural hazard management and climate change adaptation and to make the best possible efforts in the future."
